Six years of GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run
The prestige of this hard-running challenge retracing Hannibal’s footsteps mainly bases on two facts: for one thing, the routing with its almost 296 kilometres in distance and about 17,700 metres of elevation gain to be covered in seven stages and one mountain sprint speaks volumes. For another thing, the attendance figures were consistently going up since the debut of the run from Germany to Italy across the Alpine divide. In September 2005, 93 teams of two were ready for this first; one year later 111 pairings had trained hard in order to manage this exhausting running event. 41 more teams entered the third edition last year before the 2008 Transalpine-Run, which was held for the first time on the Eastern route from Ruhpolding (GER) to Sexten (ITA).
Finally the 2009 GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run has sold out for the first time in the history of the annual event. A total of 250 teams of two coming from 27 nations have registered for the eight days lasting stage race across the Alps.

Dear Transalpine runners – and all those who want to become one...
Even longer, even higher = even better? Just by taking a look at the statistics for this year’s GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run you’ll get cramp in your calf muscles: Nearly 296 kilometers in distance and about 17,700 meters of elevation gain, run in stages over eight days – how is that possible? Even experienced transalpine runners might find these figures somewhat alarming.
Nevertheless, when we planned the new route the intention wasn’t to make the run even more difficult but rather to make it more exciting and more interesting – quite simply to make it even better! After all, that’s exactly what makes the challenge of the GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run so special. It is always great fun, despite the physical exertion. It offers spectacular views of stunning mountain scenery, presenting runners with a new challenge every day of the run while offering them the experience of a lifetime as they run along the best trails in the Alps.
So, have fun training and make sure you stay clear of injuries.
Keep on running!

5. GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run was resoundingly successful
Last Saturday, the 5th GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run wrapped up with as many participants having completed the whole distance of the race as never before. A total of 195 teams out of 250 who lined up at the start in Oberstdorf, Germany, mastered the 238.09 kilometres and about 15,422 metres of elevation gain. In addition, 35 individual finishers, whose partners were forced to withdraw, also made it to Latsch, Italy.
Thus, 425 Transalpine-Runners were allowed to put on their deserved finisher jerseys. Only 15 percent weren’t able to master the adventure of the 2009 GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run.
